Frailty of Crystal, The Locket

Beautiful landscape of glistening frost and snow covered trees

I am so thrilled that copies of my new book, Frailty of Crystal, The Locket, are finally in the hands of some kindle readers.  I’m just starting out, and I very much look forward to having contact and interaction with my valued readers.  Social media is new for me, but already I’m becoming immersed, between building and launching my website and starting up a blog and a Twitter account.  I’ve learned a lot along the way, and I am well aware this is only the beginning.

This blog will be dedicated, mostly, to sharing information and insight about my characters, plots, and upcoming releases, as well as some of my experiences in my self-publishing journey.

I spent some time this weekend thinking about Cora, my central focus character for Volume One of the Ticking Realm Books.

For those of you who have read the book, you find out early on that she isn’t your most typical romance novel protagonist.  She certainly has her outward charms, but she is also troubled by inner secrets—those she keeps from others and maybe even some that she hides from herself.

I decided to start my series with a Borluum character.  Of the two immortal realms portrayed in the Ticking Realm Books (Kellaan and Borluum) Borluum’s beings are from the darker side.  My series will slowly unfold to reveal individual but interwoven tales of various characters from both realms.  So although some of my protagonists will be blithely wicked, they each have a distinct story to tell: a family history, experience with love and loss, insecurity and loneliness, the search for their place in the world…and their own inner struggle within the ambiguous concepts of good and evil.

So, my first paranormal romance paints the picture of a less than stellar heroine, Cora.  She is beautiful and confident on the outside, but tarnished and uncertain on the inside like many of us.  She has worries and hopes and dreams.  She has a job to do.  Okay, so maybe her values are a little skewed, but she’s not so different inside, is she?

I hope you enjoy Cora.  I’m currently working on her next story which I plan to publish later this spring.

Thank you so much for stopping by my new blog.  If you had an opportunity to download and read Frailty of Crystal, The Locket this weekend, I hope you’ll let me know your thoughts in a review on Amazon (click here).  Also, please feel free to submit your comments or questions below or on my website: bretaswan.com
